Stock Shift Light - FYI

When I first started tuning with Advantage Two, I found the main pid for the shift light and decided to play with it. Nothing happened. I figured this was simply a gauge pod difference between the V6 and the V8.

I was wrong.

For some reason I decided to check the pid again in Advantage Three after mentioning it in J-Stangs drag racing thread (4.6 on the brain). I turned on the shift light and thought nothing of it. I uploaded that tune the other day and even did some data logging but was not paying attention to the dash. Today... the damn shift light was working! It's an up arrow dead center of the RPM gauge. It goes off at 3K, so now I just need to look at the values in the table and figure out how to set them. I like my other light because of the brightness, but at least I can compare accuracy.

On the cheap, anyone getting a tune for their V6 can have the tuner activate the light and set whatever RPM you like.

Not sure. I just figured it was a GT only thing, but evidently it can be turned on in the V6 as well. If one were to ask I bet the dealer can turn it on, just like the day time running light feature as well - off by default; or at least mine was.

Nice job Jenna!!!!! How bright would you say is the shift light during the day? Is it noticable enough to be effective?

I wonder if this would work on all V6s, or just the ones with the info center/extra gages? Also, I would love to be able to shut off my DRL...damn Canadian regulations...daytime running lights have been required by law here for almost 20yrs, now!

Don't turn off the DRLs. I wouldn't mind turning mine on. What is so bad about them? It's actually a good safety feature and you don't have to remember to flip on the lights when going through construction zones - which seem to be every 3-5 miles on the hyws here in NY.

As for the gauge - it's not due to the update gauge pod. I have a PP but no updates on the interior. It just needs to be set to one in the tune instead of 0. Mine comes on at like 3K, so I need to look at the settings in the table.

Alex: It's really not that bright. At night it would be fine, during the day you would have to pay a little more attention, but it is noticeable. I'll see if it's noticeable enough for racing on the 17th.

I don't want to get rid of the DRLs as much as I want to relocate their function to the front marker/signal lights instead of the headlights.

Any updates on the stock shift light? I'm assuming a tuner of some sort is needed? Any details would be appreciated!
