Need to vent a little
So, I'm driving to the movies after dinner with my girlfriend, we're on the highway doing 70, its about 9:15, so its pretty dark. Before I can react I run over half of a tire that is in the middle of the road, and I hear a massive thud underneath the car. I exit about 10 feet afterwards and pull into a gas station parking lot. My CDC classic chin and my lower grill are GONE.

I'm royally p.o'ed at this point, so I walk back to where I thought I hit the tire, and I find the chin, but I can't find the grill anywhere and don't want to wander up and down the highway looking for it. I get back to the car with the chin in hand, and I look at it under the lights of the gas station. It is trashed, the mounting holes are only half there, and the front of the chin looks like it has been attacked by a big cat.

So, I am now going to have to shell out ~$60 for a lower grill and ~$240 for a new chin, all becase I didn't react quick enough to some road debris... God I hate myself right now.

The car doesn't look anywhere near as mean without that chin

Sorry to hear that, but don't beat yourself and your reflexes up too much. How could you expect to see dark road debris at night?

honestly, wouldn't you rather have hit the debris and ripped the chin spoiler off, than tried to avoid it at high speeds and REALLY wrecked your car? I know, it sucks, but it could be a lot worse.

On the bright side a least you didn't hit a dear or cow or something. Could have been worse. Sorry to hear it, hope you can fix it soon.

Man that sucks I'm really sorry to hear that - I had the same instance running over a semi tire on I-95 back when I had an exhaust cutout that hung about 3 " off the ground and needless to say it sounded like I hit a speed bump doing 70mph - incredibly scary.

Some things you just can't react to, no matter how ready you are - like if you're blocked in by two cars on either side, like myself, or there's just no way to avoid it.

in the meantime, you could always do this until you get the new chin: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/T...ideo_27659.htm

I hope this cheers you up as much as it does for me when I find new door dings and parking lot bumper scrapes to fix...

Just be gald you wern't on a motorcycle. I had a friend die from hitting a tire on his Harley with sidecar. There should laws against re-treading Semi tires.

2 years ago, i lost a drive shaft on a dyno, ripped a hole in the gas tank, tore up the exaust, brake lines and more...a few weeks later, we are driving to Tulsa for a car show, and i ran over a pot hole ripping a hole in the new Gas tank. Its just bad luck. Not the end of the world, but some times feels like it. Like everyone said, your ok, and cars OK minus a few small parts.
