New tune after going catless? - 06-04-2013

Hey guys just wondering if I go catless with my long tube set up will I need a new tune? The current tune I have for my long tubes with catted H pipe have the rear 02s on (still got a check engine light).

I ordered the catless connections from Kooks and got them today, and it just occurred to me that I might also need a new tune.

We ended up not changing the tune at all after after installing the long tubes and off road x on mine, but that could be more a product of the tune than the parts installed. I would think it would be good (and cheap) insurance to have it checked at the very least.

If I remember correctly you don't need one since you have wideband O2 sensors. It still wouldn't hurt.

Since you're in h-town...think about how you plan on passing emissions inspection. A proper tune with catalyst monitors disabled or set up so that they can complete and not complain about catalyst efficiency thresholds, will allow you to run catless and still not throw any codes and not have excessing 'not ready' monitors.

That will cover everything but the "visual" inspection. Tarrant County, where I'm at, is very strict about this, but there are always alternatives. Here, there's a street that runs through one of the barrios that is just littered with "tire" shops that also do inspections. Cash usually gets you what you need at these places.

I don't know if they make mil eliminators or not for your car but for mine the ones off the 99-04 work. When we just plugged them and drove around they threw a code before all monitors were ready. You have to have 6 out of 7 monitors ready here in NC to pass inspection. You only need to fool the computer long enough to pass emissions.

Since the computer will throw a code when the rear O2's read the same as the front O2's we kept the mil eliminators on the car and just criss-crossed the rear O2's . By the time I had drove home 6 out of 7 monitors were ready and I went right back to the shop and passed inspection. The rear 02's must be turned on in the tune in order for you pass emissions, but for everyday driving you can have a tune that disables them so you don't have to ride around with your check engine light on.

Thanks for all the great info guys. I went ahead and ordered a tune revision from Bama for the off road H pipe. As far as passing emissions I had a guy that passed me with the catless Long Tubes I had on my 2008 GT. Just gotta hope he still works there! lol I have till November to figure all that out.

It will be a nut roll if you don't get it figured out before then.
