3.55 FRPP gears installed - 03-14-2014

After a lot of back and forth debate with myself, decided to go with 3.55s.

Stock 2.73

New 3.55

Pattern

Since the panhard bar was out, replaced it with an adjustable one

Impression:

Car is a lot more peppy off the line than the stock 2.73. More peppy with out completely roasting the all season tires on a aggressive take off... Only a modest bump in RPMs on the highway, so minimal impact on MPG. Overall VERY HAPPY with the choice to only go to 3.55s... It seems to be a very good all around gear...

Put a some miles on today and a couple of heat cycles... So went out and did my standard Track Apps tests...

0-60 MPH:
Stock - 6.2 sec
Tuned - 5.7 sec
Gears - 5.4 sec

Accelerometer:
Stock - 0.55
Tuned - 0.71
Gears - 0.77

I think they're the best overall compromise you can run. Low enough to give some grunt, but high enough to cruise on the freeway without killing you. In 6th, I usually run about 2,000 rpm at 70.

completely agree! Was a nice cruise home from MRT yesterday. Plan on a couple of road trips this summer so being able to run 70 to 75 MPH without crazy RPMs was a must!

Good for you, John! But will that eliminate you from going after the Turtle Award this year?

Just got back from talking with my guy Todd here in Port Huron - since I have a set of 3.55's in the garage already. He said "no problem, we can work with those and set them up with no whine, do it all the time". So guess we will both be out of the turtle award competition because I will have the 3.55's in before the Brawl as well.

I think I am going to order a new tlok with the carbon fiber clutches. I thought about rebuilding my current one with the carbon fiber, but the new one is only about $100 more than the rebuild kit.

Now with twin turbo 3.5LV6.
Screw you photobucket! I'm not going to pay you to now use my own pictures

Do you have an install kit? Highly recommend you have one handy... ended up destroying the stock pinion bearing trying to remove it... we also noticed that the install kit had a more heavy duty pinion bearing and race.

Gary did a fantastic job on the install... no whine/noise what so ever!

When the time comes instead of rebuilding i'm thinking i would probably switch to the TrueTrac...
