8.8 work - 05-02-2016

Morning All,

Can any of the MOCSEM folks recommend a shop on the west side (Livonia,Plymouth,Northville,Novi) that is real good with the Mustang 8.8? I think I am started to have aproblem with mine. There is a faint, even, grinding noise when turning left or right. Even though it sounds like a caliper might be hanging, i checked and its not.

Thanks

Tom

Might be as simple as low fluid, or in need of some friction modifier, or rebuild of the trac-lock clutches.

Like Mike said, it could be as simple as needing some friction modifier. Most modern synthetics say that they don't need additional friction modifiers, but I have found that I get some light groaning from the differential on sharp slow turns if I don't use it. Before you get too concerned and rip into the rear end, try a simple fluid change and add a 4oz bottle of Ford # C8AZ-19B546-A friction modifier. 9 times out of 10, that will fix it.

Thanks Gents...I'll give that a try first (new fluid and modifier). I'll post the results.

Definitely, if the groaning is only during low-speed turns, you need the friction modifier. I use Royal Purple, and it is "supposed" to not need it: wrong! It will eventually groan w/o it.

Gents, thanks for your help in this. It would appear that an oil change and new modifier did the trick. I didn't post the results right away as I wanted to put some miles on to confirm. Ok...truth be told I was afraid to say it was fixed as I was sure I would be jinxed. Today I worked up the courage....so far, so good. Have about 500 miles with the new oil and modifier.

Thanks Again\

PS...Bill, thanks for the contact!!
