Post Rear Axle Swap Question - 06-14-2017

Hi there, I am planning on swapping out my 2007 V6 Mustang's rear axle for something with a limited slip differential without breaking the bank. What are my options? Most of the axles I found on ebay and other sites are north of 600 and I would like to spend less than that. Thanks

Check car-part.com and see what comes up in your area.

The 2005-10 GT rear end will require swapping the pinion flange with the cobra flange.

You can use any 2011+ Mustang rear end because they all have 8.8" rear ends. Depending upon the options some are already set up with the correct flange; you just have to check before swapping the flange to see.

Now with twin turbo 3.5LV6.

For the 2011+ rear ends, which flanges could I use besides the cobra ones?

EDIT: Nevermind I found a cobra flange and yeah it works, thanks a lot for recommending the 2011+ rear ends!

Yes, the 2011, 12, 13, 14 will all work on any S197. Same 3 link and same size.

It wasn't until the 2015 model year and switch to the S550 platform that the rear end changed to IRS. From 2005 to 2014 all S197 platform have the same 3 link set up.

Jim can I use this rear end? I'm not sure what clutch style differential is. At this point I'm looking for the best used 8.8i can find. Will 5.0 rears work? The one I'm looking at says this....

(8.8' ring gear), 5.0L, GT, 3.73 ratio (MT), clutch style differential,HAS ABS,RWD

Found this on car part. Year is 2013 and it's got 35000 KM. Price isn't listed, but before calling about it I wanna make sure it'll fit even though it's 5.0, and I was hoping you could xplain the difference between clutch style diff, and LSD?

No problem Roger - it's from a 2013 so it will fit. It may even have the correct flange, won't know until you look at it.

LSD, T-lok, and "clutch style diff" are all the same. Limited Slip Differential and the Ford T-lok are simply different names for a differential that uses clutches. The only one on the Mustang that is a little different is the Torsen found on the Boss 302, I think it is a mechanical type.
